Haitian Gourde Stabilization Measures
- 8/10/20 – Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe met with authorities from the Ministry of Economy & Finance, Ministry of Commerce & The Central Bank of Haiti (BRH) to discuss post pandemic economic recovery planning efforts.
- The two main issues discussed were the application of specific measures to stabilize the currency exchange rate as well as to ensure that all goods and services transacted in Haiti are settled in Haitian Gourdes.
Ministry of Trade and Industry issues warning
- 8/7/20 – The Ministry of Trade and Industry issued a notice warning the general public against the sale of goods and services denominated in foreign currency. Transactions should be conducted in Haitian gourdes.
Haiti Central Bank intervenes in foreign exchange markets
- 8/7/20 – The Central Bank of Haiti (BRH) published a notice confirming that it will intervene in the foreign exchange markets to the tune of 150,000,000.00 US dollars from August 10, 2020 until the end of the 2019-2020 fiscal year.
