The 2017-2018 Haiti National Budget of approximately 144.2 billion Haitian Gourdes (≈ U.S. $2.28 billion) was formally made public in Le Moniteur, the Haitian government’s official newspaper publication, on September 19, 2017.
This is the first national budget legislation under President Jovenel Moise and Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant.
The budget officially went into effect this past Sunday on October 1st despite numerous public protest against key parts of the fiscal plan.
Some of the most widely expressed grievances concerned the broad scale tax hikes and fee increases on some key government services.
